Tonight I met another incredible young hero. Mackenzie is a beautiful 18yr. old who enjoys fishing. She loves animals and aspires to be a veterinarian one day. She rode horses last week in Texas and had a special shirt made to commemorate the special experience. Mackenzie has the most gorgeous blue eyes that just sparkled tonight. She plays for the Rolling Bobcats, a basketball team for boys and girls who are confined to a wheelchair; they were national champs two years ago. She was complaining about starting another school year tomorrow just like every other teenager in Charlotte. Mackenzie was born with Spina Bifida, a birth defect in which the backbone and spinal canal do not close before birth. She is my hero. Here are some amazing photos I snapped of her tonight.
It was so great to be behind my camera again tonight after a much needed 2 week break!! I met a fabulous family and we had a blast just playing around in their backyard! This family was so precious and I can't get over how many of the images I feel like I can "hear" the laughter just from the expressions on their faces. I love that. Since I haven't posted in a while, here's a super long sneak peak....
I have to start with this most adorable series of almost 3yr. old Harlow:
and the super handsome almost 5yr. old big brother...
there are just no words to describe this next one. cutest thing I've ever seen. (Jackson might be a ladies man in a few years with moves like this!)
Two Littlest Heroes shoots coming up this week and Rachel & Jim's garden wedding on Saturday...stay tuned!
Wow, where in the world have I been??!! Super crazy busy on the blog for a while and then I've been MIA for the past 2 weeks! Ahh....it has been a nice little break for me and my family as we have enjoyed some "last-days-of-summer" time together before life gets hectic again!! We had a fabulous vacation at Ocean Isle Beach, celebrated my birthday (!!!), had a day on the lake, and have just been lazy around the house a little bit! Much needed :) But, I am gearing up for a busy week with 3 sessions and ending with a fabulous wedding this weekend at Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens! WAHOO!!
I think I have finalized my fall schedule, so since this is one of the busiest times of year for photography, I wanted to get it out there!! I am limited on my sessions this fall, so if you are thinking of having one, even if not until November, PLEASE let me know SOON!!! Here is when I will be scheduling sessions:
Monday mornings (10:00/10:30 or 11:00)
Wednesday and Thursday evenings (5:30ish--this gets earlier and earlier until the time changes Nov. 7th...and then all sessions must start by 3:3opm!)
And select Saturdays....as of NOW, I only have sessions remaining for these Saturdays:
Sept. 18th
Oct. 16th
Nov. 20th
*** I will have a brand new set of 2010 Christmas Cards this year, so stay tuned for the release of those designs coming later in September!!
***There is obviously more flexibility for newborn sessions, so if you are expecting, let me know now and I will pencil you in around your due date. Newborn sessions are best within the first 5-7 days.***
ALSO, I still have a few openings for my 2010-2011 Grow With Me packages and if you book this before August 31st, you will still receive a FREE mini-maternity session!!! Details can be found by clicking the above link.
I think that's all for now!! I promise to return full force this week on the blog, so stay tuned for all that's coming up!!
There were so many unique and special touches that stood out to me Saturday as I experienced the day Ali and Ryan pledged their faith and love to each other. It was a gorgeous sunny day for a beautiful southern wedding. Camden, South Carolina is where the ceremonies took place. I had never been to Camden before and was so intriqued by all of the historical landmarks that surround that tiny town. In fact, both the church Ali & Ryan were married in as well as their reception venue were both historical locations. When I met Ali for her bridal session a few weeks ago, I was stunned by her pure, natural beauty. So elegant, so classy. She and Ryan had a short engagement and getting married was something they both could not wait to have behind them! Their wedding was intimate. Their wedding was significant. And their wedding was absolutely beautiful. Here are a few images that stood out to me and then a slideshow to follow.
This church was built during the revolutionary war period and the architect is the same man who designed the Washington Moument! The most notable architectural detail is of course, this amazing stair case on the back of the church.
I love how perfect the inside of the church was for a small, intimate wedding. Since they didn't have heat during the time the church was built, the pews were installed with doors on the ends to help prevent cold air drafts from coming in. The church attenders would even spread blankets out over themselves inside their own "pew box".
I LOVE the blue and white hydrangeas that were included in the bouqets.
Ryan gave Ali something "new" and "blue" for her wedding day...it was a gorgeous new Bible that had beautiful navy blue leather on the cover. Inside was a special note, just for his bride.
I love this shot..."5 more minutes"!
another unique and incredible detail that I just loved about Ali and Ryan's wedding ceremony....following the example set by Jesus when He washed His disciples feet, showing the utmost act of servanthood, ALi and Ryan decided that the very first thing they wanted to do as man and wife was to wash eachother's feet. After they said their vows and exchanged rings, they took turns kneeling down and literally washing the feet of their beloved. It was absolutely beauitful.

Ali and Ryan, I am so excited for you two and the incredible life you have ahead!! I can't wait to see how God pours down His blessings on your marriage!! I hope you had a fabulous "mini-moon" and good luck as you BOTH start medical school this week!!
I had the joy of photographing another newborn this week (2nd one in 7 days!). Baby Wyatt was born last Tuesday and it was so awesome to see how in love his mommy and daddy already are with him! I think one of my favorite parts of photographing newborns is getting the chance to see a husband and a wife become a daddy and a mommy. It is priceless. THe way they look at this new addition to their family, this tiny bundle of awesomeness, this incredible creation and gift from our Heavenly Father. I just love it. Holly and Andrew were so precious as they held and snuggled baby Wyatt yesterday. And he was perfect. Never once fell asleep, but was absolutely a little angel the whole time. And the best part....his mommy and daddy purchased a Grow With Me package to help capture every tiny detail during his first year of life. I can't wait. Holly is a self-proclaimed stalker of my blog, so I already know she's probably hitting the refresh button on her computer to check for this sneak peak!! Well Holly, here you go!! Hope you like them :)
would you just look at that tiny little face?!
LOVE Andrew's expressions as he stares at his baby boy in the next ones....so precious.
Andrew and Holly had several special things they wanted included in some of the pictures. This first cradle has been in Holly's family for a long time and the blue blanket and booties were hand knit by her grandmother...
and this hand made cradle is a part of Andrew's family...
Thanks guys!! It was great meeting you and I can't wait to see you at the beginning of the year!
Kory saw some pictures I took of a friend of hers on (you guessed it!) Facebook and immediately contacted me to set up a session for her family! When she contacted me, I could sense through her first email that she was going to be so fun to work with!! I don't think I have ever had a client as excited about a photo shoot with me as Kory was! Makes me feel all special inside or something :) Sweet Jack is 6 months old and he was such a cutie yesterday! Funny thing, I could have turned upside down and stood on my head and it still would not have been as interesting to Jack as the grass that he constantly tried to get his hands on! He was so focused:) We did however manage to get some super cute expressions from this little cutie! Kory, here's your sneak peak...I hope you're pleased with what you see so far!
take note: the piece of grass in his hand :)
I love these next few of Jack and his momma...
Kory, I can't wait to work with you guys again!! Ya'll were so much fun :) Also can't wait to help you decorate the walls of your new house with photos of your sweet family!!
Yesterday I met up with a family that is on the 2nd half of a road trip that has taken them from Rochester, NY to Miami, FL and several points in between!! This family came across my work through a mutual friend on good ole Facebook! Allee contacted me a couple months ago to say that she would LOVE to have me photograph her children when they drove through Charlotte as a stopping point on their voyage. How cool is that?! I have to say, this is the furthest I have ever had a client travel for a photo session with me!! :) Allee, here's your sneak peak...I hope it was worth it!!
11 years old
aren't they ALL beautiful?!
it's true...I may have had a slight obsession with how gorgeous this 13yr. old is!!! stunning.
Yesterday I had to privilege of meeting and spending some time with Evelyn. She is a precious two-year-old little girl who brought such joy to my heart! Evelyn has to biggest brown eyes, which I have a soft heart for (!) and the most amazing smile ever! Evelyn loves to listen to sounds and she loves playing with a row of beads that hang from a peice of PVC pipe...made special, just for her. She has a purple room. I love purple. She wore a turqoise outfit. I LOVE turquoise. Me and Evelyn were instant friends :) Evelyn's mom, Lisa, contacted me through the project I am connected with called Inspiration Through Art (formerly The Littlest Heroes Project). During Lisa's pregnancy with Evelyn, a major portion of her placenta died, causing severe brain damage to this tiny baby that was growing inside. Evelyn was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and Cortical Vision Impairment (blindness) shortly after birth. The doctors informed Lisa that her daughter would likely be a vegtable and be institutionalized for her entire life. They gvae Lisa very little hope for any sort of quality of life for her precious baby girl. Praise the Lord that Lisa did not let that be the final word. Praise God that Lisa fought for services to help her daughter develop and use as much of her brain as possible, allowing her to experience life to the fullest amount possible. I would like to introduce you to a 2-yr-old hero, Miss Evelyn:
have you ever seen a smile like this before?! just warms my heart.
you've never seen a momma so in love with hey baby girl before.
I think this one is my absolute favorite.
such sweetness. i just love this moment between a mommy and her girl.
Evelyn doesn't have much control over her arms, so she tends to use her feet to touch/feel and explore her environment. She is so lucky to have this amazing "bead bar" that was created just for her. The beads reflect the sunlight which she is partially able to see. When she uses her feet to kick and move the beads, they make a cool sound that she can experience. It was so awesome to see her sitting in her wheelchair having some playtime, in her own little world. Such joy.
I like to think that she was looking straight at my camera in this next one, just waiting for me to take her picuture :)
Yesterday morning I got to meet Baby Beckett! He is only 5 days old and reminds me so much of my little guy! Jessica and I were talking about why all these other women can have sweet little 6 or 7 pound babies but for some reason we get stuck with the 8 1/2 pounders! But hey, the bigger they are, the more there is to snuggle!! Baby Beckett was such a trooper for his photo session yesterday. And he is loved so much by his precious-curly-haired-blue-eyed big brother, who also had a few pictures taken! Here's your sneak peak!
